Techniques

Rhinoplasty techniques we perform

The right technique depends on what you want changed (dorsum, tip, nostril base, deviation) and your existing anatomy. Dr. Daniela walks you through the decision during consultation — not after surgery.

Open rhinoplasty technique by Dr. Daniela Correa

Open Rhinoplasty

Small external incision on the columella (tissue between nostrils). Gives the surgeon maximum visibility for precise reshaping. Preferred for complex cases, revisions, and cases requiring tip refinement.

Closed rhinoplasty technique by Dr. Daniela Correa

Closed Rhinoplasty

All incisions inside the nostrils — no external scar. Faster recovery with less swelling. Best for smaller refinements (mild dorsal hump, slight tip adjustments).

Ultrasonic rhinoplasty Piezotome by Dr. Daniela Correa

Ultrasonic Rhinoplasty

Piezotome technology reshapes bone with ultrasonic precision. Less bruising, less swelling, more predictable bone contouring. Typically combined with open technique for best results.

Ethnic rhinoplasty preserving cultural features

Ethnic Rhinoplasty

Specialized approach for Hispanic, Asian, Afro-descendant and Middle-Eastern anatomies. Goal: refine proportions while preserving cultural identity. No standardized "one nose fits all" template.

Why choose

Why U.S. patients choose Dr. Daniela for rhinoplasty

01

Functional + aesthetic in one

Correct deviation, improve breathing, refine shape — all in a single surgery. No separate "functional then cosmetic" approach that doubles recovery and cost.

02

Ethnic preservation philosophy

Your nose should still look like your nose — only refined. Dr. Daniela rejects the homogenized "ski-slope" nose. Result is recognizably you.

03

JCI-accredited hospitals only

Performed in accredited hospitals with full ICU capability. Board-certified anesthesiology. Same surgical safety standards used in U.S. facilities.

FAQ

Rhinoplasty frequently asked questions

Will my nose still look "ethnic" or culturally appropriate after surgery?
Yes. Dr. Daniela follows an ethnic preservation philosophy. The goal is to refine proportions (a hump, a drooping tip, asymmetry) while keeping the features that make your nose recognizably yours. We show you computer morphing during consultation so you see exactly what will and will not change.
Open vs closed rhinoplasty — which is better for me?
Closed (all incisions inside the nostrils) is preferred for smaller refinements. Open (small incision on columella) gives the surgeon better visibility for complex cases, revisions, and significant tip work. The incision on the columella heals nearly invisible in 6 months. Dr. Daniela decides based on what your anatomy actually needs.
What is the recovery timeline?
Cast and internal splints: removed day 7. Bruising (if any): peaks day 3–5, resolves day 10–14. Swelling: 70% gone in 3 weeks, remaining 30% resolves gradually over 6–12 months. Final tip refinement: visible at 12 months. Most patients are socially presentable by day 14.
Can I combine rhinoplasty with a chin implant (mentoplasty)?
Yes. Combining rhinoplasty with a chin augmentation is common — the balance between nose and chin projection defines facial harmony. In a single surgical day, adding 30–45 min and $1,500–$2,200 USD to the quote. Non-surgical chin augmentation (filler) is also an option discussed in consultation.
Will I breathe better after rhinoplasty?
If you had a functional problem (deviated septum, valve collapse), yes — functional correction is done in the same surgery as the aesthetic part. If you had no breathing issue before, rhinoplasty does not typically create one. We evaluate breathing function in the consultation and include functional correction at no extra cost when indicated.
When do I see final results?
70% of the result is visible at 3 weeks (after major swelling resolves). The final 30% — especially tip refinement — continues over 6–12 months. This is why rhinoplasty follow-up goes to 12 months.
How long do I need to stay in Medellín?
10–14 days total: pre-op day, surgery with overnight observation, recovery hotel days 3–7, cast removal day 7, and final clearance to fly home day 10–14.
