Techniques

Breast lift techniques — by degree of ptosis

The scar pattern is determined by how much lift your anatomy needs — not by preference. Dr. Daniela explains exactly which pattern applies to your case during the consultation.

Periareolar donut mastopexy by Dr. Daniela Correa

Periareolar ("donut")

Small incision around the areola only. Minimal lift — appropriate for mild ptosis or areola size reduction. Smallest scar but limited correction power. Typically combined with implants for volume.

Vertical lollipop mastopexy by Dr. Daniela Correa

Vertical ("lollipop")

Incision around areola + vertical line to the breast fold. Moderate lift for moderate ptosis. Good balance between scar visibility and correction. Most common pattern after pregnancy.

Anchor inverted-T mastopexy for significant ptosis

Anchor (inverted-T)

Full incision pattern (periareolar + vertical + horizontal at breast fold). Maximum lift for marked ptosis, significant weight loss, or larger breast volumes. Scars are longer but well-hidden in bra and swimwear.

Breast lift with implants augmentation mastopexy

Lift + Implants (aug-mastopexy)

Restore shape and volume in one surgery. Ideal when pregnancy left the breast both saggy and deflated. Combines any of the 3 lift patterns with Motiva or Mentor implants.

FAQ

Breast lift frequently asked questions

Should I wait until I finish having children?
Yes, if possible. Future pregnancies and breastfeeding can alter the results of a mastopexy — requiring a revision later. If you plan more children, we typically recommend postponing. If circumstances don't allow waiting, Dr. Daniela will still do the lift — you just understand the revision is likely.
Can I breastfeed after mastopexy?
Yes in most cases. Dr. Daniela's technique preserves milk ducts and nipple innervation. Periareolar patterns have slightly higher risk of breastfeeding difficulty than vertical or anchor patterns — but none are contraindicated. Mention breastfeeding plans in consultation.
Do I need implants with my lift?
Not always. Implants are needed when both ptosis and volume loss exist — typical after pregnancy and breastfeeding. If you have enough breast tissue and just need repositioning, mastopexy alone suffices. Dr. Daniela decides during the physical exam, not before.
What scar pattern will I have?
Depends on your degree of ptosis: periareolar (around areola only, smallest), vertical (lollipop, most common), or anchor (inverted-T, for significant ptosis). You'll see exactly which pattern applies to you before surgery — including photos of healed scars from past patients.
When can I exercise or lift my kids?
Walking: day 2. Desk work: day 7. Lower-body gym: 3 weeks. Upper-body gym / lifting kids over 5 kg: 6 weeks. Running or HIIT: 4 weeks.
How long until final shape settles?
Initial shape is visible immediately. Implants (if included) "drop and fluff" over 3–6 months. Scars mature over 6–12 months — silicone sheeting accelerates scar fading. Final shape and scar appearance at 12 months.
How long do I need to stay in Medellín?
10–14 days total: pre-op day, surgery with overnight observation, recovery hotel with daily nursing days 3–10, and medical clearance to fly home day 10–14.
