Choosing a female plastic surgeon can make it easier for some women to talk openly about their bodies, personal insecurities, and the changes they would like to make. Whether you’re considering breast surgery, body contouring, or addressing changes after pregnancy, feeling comfortable with your surgeon matters. But gender alone doesn’t determine the quality of your care. Professional qualifications, surgical experience, and patient safety should always come first.
I’m Dr. Daniela Correa, a female plastic surgeon in Colombia, and I believe your consultation should be a space where you feel comfortable asking questions, sharing your concerns, and explaining what you hope to achieve. My approach is to listen carefully, understand your anatomy and expectations, and help you explore surgical options that make sense for you. Because before we talk about changing anything, I want to understand what matters most to you.

Why Do Some Women Prefer a Female Plastic Surgeon?
For some women, choosing a female plastic surgeon is about feeling more comfortable discussing personal concerns. Breast size, abdominal changes, scars, and body image can be sensitive topics, and having a surgeon you feel at ease with may make those conversations easier.
In my consultations, I want you to feel heard, respected, and involved in every decision. Your comfort matters, but so does having a clear understanding of your surgical options, their limitations, and potential risks.
Feeling Comfortable Talking About Your Body with a Woman Plastic Surgeon
You might feel uncomfortable talking about your breasts, loose abdominal skin, or a feature you’ve wanted to change for years. That’s understandable. Some patients specifically look for a woman plastic surgeon because they feel more at ease discussing these concerns with another woman.
When we meet, I want you to be able to tell me:
- What bothers you: It might be breast asymmetry, changes in your abdominal contour, or a scar that affects how you feel about your appearance.
- How it affects you: Perhaps you've changed the clothes you wear or feel less comfortable with certain areas of your body.
- What concerns you about surgery: Scarring, anesthesia, recovery, complications, or whether the outcome will look natural.
These conversations help me understand your motivations. They also allow us to build a relationship based on trust, privacy, and honest communication, without judgment or pressure to undergo a procedure.
Discussing Breast and Body Changes After Pregnancy
Pregnancy and breastfeeding can change the body in ways that don’t always resolve with exercise or weight loss. You may notice loss of breast volume, breast sagging, stretched abdominal skin, or separation of the abdominal muscles (diastasis recti).
These changes are common, but every woman’s experience is different. Some embrace them, while others consider surgery to address specific concerns. Neither perspective is wrong.
Common concerns we can discuss during your consultation
Breast changes
Volume loss, sagging, or changes in breast shape after pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Abdominal changes
Loose skin, changes in contour, or abdominal muscle separation after pregnancy.
Important: Not every concern requires surgery. A physical examination helps determine which treatments, if any, may be appropriate.
Some women prefer discussing these experiences with a female plastic surgeon, particularly when they involve intimate changes in their bodies. I respect that preference, but I never assume that sharing the same gender means sharing the same experiences.
My role is to understand your individual concerns, evaluate your anatomy, and explain what surgery can realistically address.
Feeling Heard When You Explain Your Aesthetic Goals
You may want fuller breasts without looking dramatically different, a more defined waist while maintaining your natural proportions, or an improvement in abdominal contour without unrealistic expectations.
I believe natural-looking results begin with understanding what you want to change and what you want to preserve. That’s why I encourage you to participate actively in your consultation.
Your concerns deserve to be heard. Let’s discuss what you’d like to change and explore the surgical options that may be right for you.
How Do You Choose the Right Female Plastic Surgeon?
Choosing a female plastic surgeon is about more than feeling comfortable during your consultation. You also need to know that the person performing your surgery has the training, experience, and medical judgment to recommend a procedure that is appropriate for you.
I always encourage my patients to look beyond gender and ask questions about qualifications, surgical safety, and expected results before deciding.
Look Beyond Gender: Training, Experience, and Patient Safety Matter
Whether you're considering breast surgery, liposuction, or a tummy tuck, choosing the right surgeon means knowing who will perform your procedure and how your safety will be protected. Before committing to surgery, I recommend checking these five essentials.
If you're considering a female plastic surgeon in Colombia, you can verify professional registration through the Colombian Ministry of Health's ReTHUS system.
I also believe your surgeon should clearly explain the benefits, limitations, and possible complications of your procedure before you make a decision.

You may know what you'd like to change, but not every surgical technique is right for every patient. I begin by evaluating your anatomy, listening to your expectations, and explaining which options may be appropriate for you.
Breast Surgery
Breast implants add volume, but significant sagging may require a breast lift. The best approach depends on your anatomy and goals.
Body Contouring
Liposuction removes localized fat, but it does not reliably correct significant loose skin or abdominal muscle separation.
"My goal is not to promise you a perfect body. It's to help you make an informed decision about yours."

Women in Plastic Surgery: How Has Female Representation Changed?
More women are entering plastic surgery, although men still account for most practicing surgeons in the specialty. Recent U.S. data shows a meaningful shift: women remain underrepresented among established plastic surgeons, but their participation in surgical training has grown considerably.
As a woman plastic surgeon, I believe this progress is worth recognizing. It reflects an evolving profession where more women are pursuing careers in plastic, aesthetic, and reconstructive surgery.
How Many Female Plastic Surgeons Are There?
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), women represented approximately 19% of its U.S. membership in 2024. This figure describes the organization’s American membership, not all plastic surgeons worldwide.

The next generation of plastic surgeons shows a different picture.
A study published in 2026, Trends in Female Representation Across Five Competitive Surgical Specialties (2013–2025), examined U.S. medical education and residency application data. It found that women accounted for 53.38% of plastic surgery applicants during the 2024–2025 cycle, the highest female percentage among the five surgical specialties studied.

These statistics do not represent Colombia, where the number and proportion of practicing female plastic surgeons would need to be established using Colombian professional data.
For me, these findings highlight the growing presence of women in a specialty that has historically been male dominated. However, a surgeon’s gender does not determine their technical ability, clinical judgment, or quality of care.
When choosing your surgeon, what ultimately matters is finding a qualified professional who takes your concerns seriously, prioritizes your safety, and helps you understand your options.

Frequently Asked Questions About Choosing a Female Plastic Surgeon
1. Why do some women prefer a female plastic surgeon?
Some women prefer a female plastic surgeon because they feel more comfortable discussing personal concerns about their bodies, breast changes, or aesthetic goals with another woman. This can make it easier to ask questions and express insecurities. However, gender doesn’t determine surgical skill or quality of care. Your surgeon’s qualifications, experience, and commitment to patient safety should always guide your decision.
2. Is a female plastic surgeon better for breast surgery?
Not necessarily. A surgeon’s gender doesn’t determine their ability to perform breast augmentation, breast lifts, or breast reduction. What matters is their specialized training, surgical experience, and understanding of breast anatomy. In my practice, I evaluate your breast tissue, skin quality, proportions, and expectations to recommend a procedure that is appropriate for your body.
3. Can I discuss pregnancy and postpartum body changes with a woman plastic surgeon?
Absolutely. During your consultation, we can openly discuss breast sagging, volume loss, loose abdominal skin, and changes in your body after pregnancy or breastfeeding. I understand that these concerns can be personal, so my priority is to create a comfortable environment where you can explain what bothers you without feeling judged. Together, we’ll explore whether surgery is appropriate for your goals and stage of recovery.
4. How can I verify a female plastic surgeon’s qualification in Colombia?
Before choosing a female plastic surgeon in Colombia, I recommend verifying her medical qualifications through Colombia’s ReTHUS (Registro Único Nacional del Talento Humano en Salud) and checking her specialist credentials. You should also ask about her experience with your procedure, the surgical facility, anesthesia team, and postoperative care. A qualified surgeon should be willing to discuss these details and explain the risks involved.
5. Does choosing a female plastic surgeon guarantee more natural-looking results?
No. Natural-looking results depend on surgical planning, anatomical characteristics, technique, and realistic expectations, not the surgeon’s gender. My approach focuses on understanding your proportions and recommending changes that complement your existing features. While I aim for harmonious results, every patient’s healing process and surgical outcome are different, and no specific result can be guaranteed.
6. What procedures can I have with Dr. Daniela Correa in Colombia?
As a plastic surgeon in Medellín, Colombia, I offer procedures including breast augmentation, breast lifts, breast reduction, breast implant removal, liposuction, and abdominoplasty (tummy tuck). The right option depends on your anatomy, health, and personal goals. During your consultation, I’ll explain which procedures may address your concerns and whether combining treatments is medically appropriate.
7. Can a female plastic surgeon help me choose the right breast implants?
Yes. Choosing breast implants involves much more than selecting a cup size or implant volume. I evaluate your chest width, breast tissue, skin quality, existing asymmetries, and body proportions before discussing implant size, shape, and projection. My goal is to help you understand which options may create a balanced appearance while considering the limitations and risks associated with breast implants.
8. What should I expect during my first consultation with a female cosmetic surgeon?
Your first consultation should give you an opportunity to discuss your aesthetic goals, medical history, concerns, and expectations. I want to understand what you’d like to change and why. We’ll review possible procedures, their benefits, limitations, recovery requirements, and potential complications. It’s also your opportunity to ask questions and decide whether you feel comfortable moving forward. A consultation is not a commitment to surgery.
9. Can international patients schedule a virtual consultation with a female plastic surgeon in Medellín?
Yes. If you’re considering plastic surgery in Colombia but live abroad, you can begin with a virtual consultation with me, Dr. Daniela Correa. We can discuss your concerns, medical background, and potential surgical options before you travel. However, a virtual consultation does not replace the physical examination, preoperative testing, or medical clearance required to determine whether surgery is safe and appropriate for you.
10. Why choose Dr. Daniela Correa as your female plastic surgeon in Colombia?
I believe choosing your surgeon should be based on professional qualifications, trust, clear communication, and personalized care. As a female plastic surgeon in Colombia, my approach is to listen to your concerns, carefully evaluate your anatomy, and explain realistic surgical options without pressure or unrealistic promises. Whether you’re considering breast surgery or body contouring, I want you to feel informed, respected, and confident in the decisions you make about your body.
